What Hemingway, Ruarak, and Capstick did for hunting literature Marc Watts continues to do for the digital age; he raises the standard’s bar to a new level that few in the hunting video industry can obtain. Unfortunately for his competition, Marc’s latest video, The Mane Event: Tanzania’s Perfectly Shot Dangerous Game, raises the bar even higher. Simply put, The Mane Event is by far Marc’s best video to date. And that’s saying quite a bit. Marc’s experience as an Emmy-award winning CNN Correspondent is more evident than ever in Sable Trail Production’s latest release. Viewers of The Mane Event are treated to intelligent and articulate commentary and narration, superb quality footage and sound, and flawless editing. Filmed entirely on location in Tanzania’s Masiland and Selous game concessions, The Mane Event includes 13 outstanding hunts all taken with a perfectly placed shot. Included in the mixed bag are such species as White-Bearded Wildebeest, Fringe-Eared Oryx, impala, Coke Hartebest, an ostrich taken with a single shot at 438 yards on a bet from the cameraman, two Cape buffalos, and two zebras, one of which was taken with an amazing 500 yard heart shot. But the real action comes from the video’s namesake; a tremendously large, fully-maned lion. Having absolutely no luck whatsoever with 8 days of baiting, Marc and his PH Peter Chipman happen upon one of the largest lions ever to come out of Tanzania while inspecting a colony of vultures. After several hectic moments of running and moving into position (how the camera managed to stay in focus during this blurry of activity is beyond me) Marc drops the lion with two rounds from his .416. Measuring over 10 feet in length with a head the size of a Volkswagen Beetle, even the usually verbose "Bwana Moja" is reduced to muttering, “God dang!” In addition to great hunting, The Mane Event allows viewers the opportunity to witness something most of us didn’t believe existed; a highlight tape of Marc Watt’s missed shots. Not only do we get to see Marc miss but we get to witness the frustration, mumbled curses, and rock kicking that accompanies it. Also included, are Marc’s thoughts on how to rebound from such blown shots. The only thing my preview copy of The Mane Event seemed to be missing was a personal invitation to accompany Marc on his next hunt. Purchase The Mane Event at www.sabletrailproductions.com |
